Tiger Woods, the legendary golfer who concluded the 2024 season with a commendable performance at the PNC Championship, has lately been enmeshed in a series of performance struggles within the tech-savvy league. The unusually lackluster performance from Woods has not only triggered criticism but also resulted in a less-than-stellar season for his team, Jupiter Links. Yet, in the face of these challenges, Woods’ teammates continue to rally behind him, demonstrating the strength of their camaraderie.
Jupiter Links has been experiencing a rough patch in the league, managing just a single, closely-fought victory against Boston Common Golf Club, ending in a 4-3 margin. The team’s performance woes have been further amplified by concerns over their qualification for the semi-finals. An insider recently made a hard-hitting observation on the Shotgun Start podcast, suggesting that the TGL is a better league without Woods.
Despite the mounting criticism, hope and support for Woods, arguably one of the greatest golfers of all time, remain alive. Max Homa, a Jupiter Links team member, was recently queried about his experience of being on the same team as Woods during the Smylie Show. He was asked about a particularly memorable flagstick shot by Kevin Kisner that had left both him and Woods in fits of laughter.
Speaking fondly of the experience, Homa said, “Being on the team with Tiger is really cool, but all jokes aside, with the whole thing that went down with Kis to get to stand next to like your hero.” He went on to describe how the duo shared a hearty laugh for over an hour, a moment that was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media. Fans were delighted to see this lighter side of Woods, a departure from his typically competitive demeanor on the golf course.
Homa further expressed his admiration for Woods, the 15-time major winner, saying, “I honestly think for the fans and in the corniest way like he’s such like a Godlike figure and to get to see him how we see him which is just like a dude and he’s honestly awesome guy been a good friend to get to see him in these environments be you know normal but competitive.” His words underscored the different facets of Woods’ personality, revealing a side of the champion golfer that fans seldom get to witness.
Yet, the question remains – with these allegations looming large over Woods, can Jupiter Links still secure a spot in the semi-finals?
Currently, Jupiter Links is grappling with a series of defeats in the league. Out of four matches, the team has tasted victory only once, leaving them with a challenging path to the semi-finals. With only one match left against Atlanta Drive, the odds of qualification seem steep. Jupiter Links currently sits in fifth place, with a one-point deficit for qualification.
Three semi-final spots have already been claimed by Los Angeles GC, The Bay GC, and Atlanta Drive GC. For Jupiter Links to qualify for the final match, they need a win and must also rely on the outcome of New York’s match, as they are currently in fourth place. Even a tiebreaker or loss could potentially open up a path for Woods’ team to the playoffs. However, the fate of Jupiter Links will only be confirmed after NYGC’s match, which is scheduled a day prior. At present, New York holds the fourth position with 3 points, while Jupiter sits at fifth with 2 points.
