Professional golfer Brooke Henderson has generated a buzz among the gaming community as she announced her inclusion as a playable character in the much-anticipated PGA Tour 2K25. For golf enthusiasts who relish the opportunity to simulate their favourite sport via the comfort of their gaming consoles, this news is particularly exciting. With this, they can virtually steer Henderson’s career, guiding her to triumph in prestigious tournaments.
However, the excitement isn’t universal. The announcement has drawn mixed reactions from fans, reflecting a divide in the gaming community. This is due to the fact that, in the game, Henderson, along with other male and female characters, can only compete in the PGA Tour, not the LPGA Tour. This means that gamers can lead Henderson to victory in tournaments like the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, and the Open Championship, but not in the Masters Tournament. This omission is attributed to 2K Games’ yet-to-be-finalized agreement with Augusta National, the host of the Masters Tournament.
The game’s lineup also includes other stars from the LPGA Tour, such as Lydia Ko and Rose Zhang. However, due to restrictions on image rights, the roster of PGA Tour 2K25 includes only 12 professional golfers.
Henderson’s announcement on her Instagram account further stoked the fires of debate among fans. Some were thrilled to see Henderson return to the virtual green, expressing their enthusiasm with comments like “come on Brook, this is your time to shine again” and noting the accurate depiction of Henderson, stating, “That’s actually a pretty good likeness… I’m sold!”
However, not all feedback was positive. 2K Games faced criticism for the perceived substandard modelling of Henderson’s character. Some fans remarked that the character’s likeness was “temu”, while others pointed out that the character looked unnaturally angry – a stark contrast to Henderson’s typically cheerful disposition. One user was particularly blunt, commenting, “Not a very good model”, implying dissatisfaction with the effort 2K Games put into recreating Henderson’s likeness in the game.
Regardless of these varying opinions, one thing is clear: the anticipation for controlling the virtual version of Brooke Henderson in PGA Tour 2K25 is palpable. As the gaming world awaits the launch of this latest installment, it remains to be seen whether the criticisms will be addressed or if they will impact the overall reception of the game.
