Throughout NFL history, quarterbacks have won the regular-season MVP award the vast majority of the time.
In fact, the last non-quarterback to win the honor was Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who did it in 2012 when he had a season for the ages by rushing for 2,097 yards.
This season, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is having a season to remember, and former wide receiver Nate Burleson thinks he should be the front-runner for this season’s MVP, per NFL Network.

Hill has amassed 1,324 receiving yards and 10 receiving yards in 11 games and is leading the league in both categories, and he has seemingly raised his game to an even higher level since coming to Miami after the Kansas City Chiefs traded him over a year ago.
He is seemingly on pace to become the first man to record 2,000 receiving yards in a single season — Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions currently holds the single-season record in that category with 1,964.
Believe it or not, no wide receiver has ever been named the NFL’s regular-season MVP — not even Jerry Rice, the greatest to ever play the position who won two Offensive Player of the Year awards and the MVP of Super Bowl XXIII.
Thanks to Hill’s explosive production, the Dolphins are 8-3, although some believe that record is fraudulent, as the Dolphins lack wins against any likely playoff squads.
But they do have arguably the NFL’s best offense, and Hill is the biggest reason why, as his speed in the open field and ability to make contested catches is something to behold.
