After the owners’ approval earlier this month, Oakland Athletics owner John Fisher has a clear path to moving the team to Las Vegas before the 2028 season.
There are still steps he and his team need to complete (important ones, too), but he has the green light from his fellow owners.
Fans in Oakland are deeply hurt that the team that gave them so much joy is now going to be taken away from them.
However, they still intend to watch and enjoy baseball, and have unveiled a new local team.
“A new baseball team is being unveiled in Oakland after MLB approved the Athletics’ move to Las Vegas: The Oakland Ballers, aka the Oakland B’s. The team will begin play in the independent Pioneer League in 2024 — backed by fans and community leaders,” Front Office Sports tweeted.

Well, baseball fans in the area won’t have the Oakland A’s playing major league baseball, but they will have the Oakland B’s in Independent ball.
It’s not an MLB team, sure, but it’s a nice, cool initiative by a group of leaders and fans to make sure the game doesn’t die in the area.
To the contrary of what some might think, there are lots of baseball fans in Oakland.
Fisher, however, routinely ranked near the bottom of the league in total payroll.
He constantly failed to invest in his own team, citing low attendance as his excuse.
Whenever the A’s were competitive and in the playoffs, fans went to the Oakland Coliseum.
They had to endure their owner’s stingy approach, a less-than-ideal stadium, and other circumstances, and are now being blamed by some.
