The Atlanta Braves offense made history in 2023, tying the single-season record for most home runs by a team.
They had Ronald Acuna Jr. with his 40-70 season, Matt Olson with his 50+ home runs, and a myriad of talented offensive performers helping the cause.
Their pitching staff, while also talented, wasn’t as good as the offense and it probably cost them a deep playoff run.
Max Fried barely made it back in time for the playoffs after missing the last few weeks of September with an injury, and Charlie Morton couldn’t play in the Division Series.
The Philadelphia Phillies were able to beat Spencer Strider, and that was it for them.
That’s why Atlanta has insisted on adding impact pitching this offseason.
They are doing their due diligence and inquiring about impact players via free agency or trade.
They have reportedly set their sights on Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease.
Landing him would make their staff deep and filled with star-level talent.
“‘If you’re looking at adding Dylan Cease… that’s basically going to be unbeatable.’ @Xavier_Scruggs on the rumors surrounding the @Braves possibly targeting another big mustache for their rotation,” MLB Network Radio tweeted.

Cease had a 4.58 ERA last season with the White Sox.
People think, however, that if he goes to an organization with better coaching and player development skills, Cease could realistically return to the level he showed in 2022: a 2.20 ERA and 227 strikeouts in just 184 frames.
He was a Cy Young finalist as recently as one year ago, and he still has a big arm.
The Braves could end up stealing him in a trade and adding another top-tier arm for their rotation if they get away with their plan.
