At this point in the 2023 NFL season, with only two wins in 11 games, the New England Patriots and its coaching staff have no idea what to do about the quarterback position and the lack of production they’ve gotten from Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe.
It seems as though the Patriots will limp to the finish line this season and make drastic changes during the NFL offseason with an emphasis on finding a massive upgrade at the quarterback position because Jones and Zappe are clearly not the answer under center.
With legendary head coach Bill Belichick turning to Zappe last week in the loss against the New York Giants, it’s safe to say that he’ll get the start at quarterback for the rest of the season.
However, there’s a chance that Belichick gets sick of seeing Zappe underperform and turns to Will Grier to shoulder the load under center, with the team signing him to the team’s practice squad, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Patriots are re-signing QB Will Grier, whom they released over the weekend, to their practice squad.

Obviously, Grier has to get the nod to be added to the active roster in order to play, but with the way things are going for the Patriots and the team desperately needing to turn things around, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Belichick and company go that route.
Grier hasn’t played a single snap all season long and was recently waived by the team before being re-signed to the practice squad.
Even though Grier may not move the needle much, New England likely wants to finish the season on a high note and could roll the dice in the final weeks.
