The Kansas City Chiefs are trying to gear up for a run at their third Super Bowl championship in five years, and they took another step toward that goal by defeating the Las Vegas Raiders, 31-17, on Sunday.
The win came after they had lost on Monday Night Football in Week 11 to the Philadelphia Eagles, 21-17, in a rematch of last season’s Super Bowl.
During the contest against the Raiders, star tight end Travis Kelce got into a scuffle when he pushed a Raiders defender after he tried to rip the ball away from Kansas City wide receiver Rashee Rice after Rice was tackled.
Kelce had some words for that Raiders player when asked about the incident, via his “New Heights” podcast.
Kelce is having his usual strong season with 70 catches for 732 yards and five touchdowns through 10 games, and he caught six balls for 91 yards on Sunday.
He has been the only consistent offensive threat all season for the defending champs, as they do not have a consistently reliable playmaker at the wide receiver position after Tyreek Hill and JuJu Smith-Schuster departed during the last two offseasons.
Kansas City is hoping Rice is developing into that playmaker — the wideout led them with eight receptions for 107 yards on Sunday, and in total, he has 527 yards and five touchdowns this year.
With their offensive ranks down from previous years, they have been winning with defense more than they have in the past, and they currently rank fourth in total yards allowed and third in points given up.
They will visit the Green Bay Packers this weekend before hosting the Buffalo Bills on December 10.
