In today’s day and age, fans and athletes are more interconnected than ever.
The two parties can interact on social media, which has given fans a feeling of closeness to their favorite stars.
While this is mainly seen as a positive, there are also downsides to these types of interactions.
Fans have become more confident around these athletes, saying positive and negative things to players when they see them.
Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco recently sat on their “Nightcap” podcast to discuss this phenomenon.
They focused on the negative side, particularly regarding harmful interactions between NFL players and fans.
Ochocinco told fans to “not cross that line” with their favorite players.

He is not opposed to fans heckling their favorite players, especially if they do something wrong in a particular game.
What Ochocinco pleaded with people not to do is touch players, get in their faces, or be blatantly disrespectful.
Both former NFL athletes understand that fans want to have an experience at an NFL game, making their time unique when watching a game in person.
However, they agreed that some lines should not be crossed, as several fans have recently done.
A lot of times, as Ochocinco said, these interactions can be seen as “money grab” opportunities.
If fans antagonize an athlete enough, they might retaliate, which could put both involved parties in a compromising position.
It will be interesting to see how the NFL tackles this issue in the future and how players will continue to respond moving forward.
