This has been a lost season for the Arizona Cardinals, who have the NFL’s second-worst record at 2-10 and virtually nothing to play for at this point.
Quarterback Kyler Murray missed their first nine games after recovering from the torn ACL he suffered late last season, but they haven’t shown any real improvement in the three games he has been back for.
The team has made the decision to release veteran tight end Zach Ertz, who recently turned 33 years of age, and he took to Twitter to thank the Cardinals and their fans for his time with the team.
Thank you for the past two years AZ! Truly grateful for our time here!
The best is yet to come!

In seven games this year, he has put up 27 catches for 187 yards and a touchdown, and last year he had 47 receptions for 406 yards and four touchdowns.
Not too long ago, Ertz was one of the NFL’s better tight ends, and he played a key role in the Philadelphia Eagles winning the Super Bowl during the 2017 season.
That year, he made the Pro Bowl for the first time with 824 yards and eight touchdowns, and the following year, he went over the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career.
Ertz was a second-round draft pick in 2013, and in his third and final season at Stanford University, the California native registered 898 yards and six touchdowns as Stanford defeated the University of Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.
He will now be a free agent, and it will be interesting to see how much interest he garners on the open market at this point of the season.
