Since the start of the 2020 season, the Dallas Cowboys have won 70 percent of the games they’ve played with Dak Prescott as their starting quarterback.
This year, the Cowboys are 9-3 with Prescott under center, and the quarterback is arguably in the middle of the best season of his entire NFL career.
Following Dallas’ 41-35 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated during a radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Friday that the franchise “has never had a better leader” than Prescott (via The Athletic’s Jon Machota on Twitter).
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan on Dak Prescott: “We’ve never had a better leader. … Dak Prescott is the best pied piper for everybody. I’m not just talking about the team, I’m talking about the coaches. He is the pied piper of the team.”

That’s quite the proclamation for Jones to make, considering all of the success Dallas has had in the past, which includes five Super Bowl victories.
It’s probably safe to conclude that the Cowboys owner is just getting caught up in the moment and the excitement after the team’s win on Thursday because it’s difficult to imagine that he believes Prescott is a better leader than some of the franchise’s all-time great players like Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Darren Woodson, and Roger Staubach.
It will be interesting to see if these thoughts about Prescott remain for Jones during the final weeks of the 2023 season.
Dallas has been able to capitalize on matchups with weaker opponents, but during the next few weeks, they will be taking on some of the best teams the NFL has to offer in 2023, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins, and Detroit Lions.
If the Cowboys are able to come away with wins in each of these three matchups, then the chances of them winning the franchise’s sixth Super Bowl trophy will be much higher.
