Sunday’s matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers is not only one of the biggest games of the week, it’s arguably one of the biggest games of the entire 2023 NFL season.
These two teams met in the 2022 NFC Championship, and both teams will be looking to prove something to each other with the playoffs just a few weeks away.
Knowing this, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a little bit of trash talk has been taking place between some of the players involved in this weekend’s big showdown.
49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel recently called Eagles cornerback James Bradberry “trash,” and while this probably rubbed some people the wrong way, Philadelphia receiver A.J. Brown couldn’t help but smile about the playful banter from the San Francisco pass-catcher (via John Clark on Twitter).
“I don’t think Deebo means any harm. He’s just having fun. I don’t think it’s a shot at Bradberry. That’s just how he talks. He’s a big kid.”

After the first few weeks of the 2023 season, it seemed like most regarded the 49ers as the best team in the NFC.
But since then, San Francisco has dealt with some of their top players missing time due to injuries (including Samuel), and now Philadelphia has a two-game lead over them for the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
The result of Sunday’s matchup should have a big impact on how the NFC playoff bracket ends up this season, especially if the 49ers win.
A victory this weekend would give San Francisco the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Eagles if both teams end up finishing the 2023 campaign with the same record.
So, yeah, a lot is on the line this Sunday in Philadelphia.
