Earlier this season, it looked like the favorite to win this season’s regular-season NFL MVP was Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who won it last season.
As time went on, Jalen Hurts, the Philadelphia Eagles’ signal-caller, added his name as another frontrunner for the award.
But with what has developed lately for the Dallas Cowboys, Nick Wright said on FS1’s “First Things First” that there is, in his mind, a new favorite for the MVP: Dak Prescott.
“Right now, Dak Prescott is the league MVP. And it’s not close.”

Wright’s argument is that Prescott is leading the No. 1 scoring offense and that he is putting up outstanding numbers with less offensive talent than the Eagles or the San Francisco 49ers, the two other elite teams in the NFC.
After leading the Cowboys to a 41-35 win over the Seattle Seahawks with an excellent performance on Thursday, Prescott leads the NFL in QBR and passing touchdowns and is second in pass completion percentage and passer rating.
The Cowboys hold an 8-3 record, and they’re looking to prove that they’re fully capable of toppling the Eagles and/or the 49ers come playoff time, not to mention Mahomes’ Chiefs should they meet the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
Prescott has a history of playing poorly in big playoff games, and now that he’s in his eighth season, another lackluster postseason performance in a loss could turn that narrative into something he may not be able to overcome.
But if he leads Dallas to the world championship, he would permanently prove his doubters wrong, MVP or no MVP.
