The New Orleans Saints seemed like a lock to win the NFC South given how weak the division looked on paper, but so far during the 2023 NFL season the team has been pretty underwhelming.
The Saints looked like the clear frontrunners when they signed Derek Carr in free agency, but the veteran quarterback hasn’t been what the team has hoped for.
Carr has a good arm and is capable of hitting receivers downfield, but so far he’s been more content checking down the football to players like Alvin Kamara instead of hitting the big play.
Carr’s reluctance to push the football has muted players like Chris Olave and even rookie A.T. Perry who has shown flashes in recent weeks.
Michael Thomas was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, but still tuned in to see his team play the Detroit Lions in Week 13.
Carr checked the ball down on a play, but Thomas was quick to point out that Perry was open way downfield via his personal Twitter account.

On the play, Perry started out on the right side of the field and crossed over deep to the left side where he was left unguarded.
Instead of keeping his eyes, up, though, Carr opted for the safer throw that resulted in the Saints having to punt the football again.
Thomas hasn’t been shy about throwing shade Carr’s way and for good reason given that the quarterback seems to leave plays on the field.
The fanbase has also grown frustrated with Carr, so he’ll need to step up soon if he wants to earn any trust back from his teammates and New Orleans faithful.
