Bryson DeChambeau, the prominent figure striding the fairways of LIV Golf and the PGA Tour, has given a hint of the strategic shift he’s planning for this year’s Masters at Augusta. Currently positioned in 14th place in LIV Golf’s individual rankings, DeChambeau has his eyes fixed firmly on the prestigious Masters tournament slated for next month.
While his focus now is the upcoming LIV Golf Hong Kong, the allure of Augusta is unmistakable. The Masters, a highlight of the golfing calendar, is a tournament where legends are made, and DeChambeau is eager to etch his name deeper into its storied history.
The American golfer, who has already tasted victory nine times on the PGA Tour and twice in major championships, is not new to the pressures or the excitement of big tournaments. His victories at the US Open in 2020 and 2024 bear testimony to his mettle. The first win saw him outdo Matthew Wolff by six shots at Winged Foot, while the second had him edge out Rory McIlroy by a single shot at Pinehurst.
In the press conference leading up to LIV Golf Hong Kong, DeChambeau expressed his enthusiasm for the first major of 2025. “Yeah, I’m excited. I feel like I’m ready,” he said. The excitement was palpable as he revealed a significant change in his game strategy – a switch in the golf ball he uses.
Experimenting with the new golf ball this week, DeChambeau is confident of its impact on his game, saying, “It’s been pretty solid so far.” He is eager to see how this change plays out at Augusta, adding, “However the cards play out, they’ll play out, but I am genuinely excited for this year.”
Before Augusta, DeChambeau has a packed schedule with LIV Golf Miami taking place at Trump National Doral. However, he plans to squeeze in another practice round at Augusta, having already had one in January. “I went there on the 6th of January, so I had a little practice round. I might get one more in before Miami, but we’ll see,” he shared.
DeChambeau’s dual roles in both the PGA Tour and as the captain of Crushers GC, a team in LIV Golf that currently stands third with consecutive fourth-place finishes, are testament to his commitment and versatility in the sport. As the Masters draws closer, fans and critics alike will be watching closely to see how DeChambeau’s new strategy and the golf ball switch will play out on the storied greens of Augusta.
