In an effort to put their ugly loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving Day behind them, the Detroit Lions came to play on Sunday on the road at Caesars Superdome against the New Orleans Saints.
The Lions were really hoping for an impressive bounce-back victory on Sunday in the Big Easy, and that’s exactly what they got as they were able to hold off the Saints and secure the five-point win.
Even though a lot of the usual suspects got involved in this win over the Saints, with touchdowns for David Montgomery and Amon-Ra St. Brown, it was rookie tight end Sam LaPorta who stole the show on the road.
The rookie tight end, who is having an incredible first season with the Lions during the 2023 campaign, caught a game-high nine passes for 140 yards and a touchdown and earned high praise from star quarterback Jared Goff after the game via NFL on FOX Podcast.
“He’s a stud. He doesn’t feel like a rookie. He does everything right. I trust the hell out of him,” Goff said.

Goff knows he’s got something special in LaPorta, who is becoming more and more unstoppable with every passing week, as he’s making a name for himself as one of the best players in the NFL at the tight end position.
In 12 games played in his rookie campaign thus far, LaPorta has caught 77 passes for 539 yards and five touchdowns.
Even though LaPorta has been solid all season long for the Lions, this is the first time he’s surpassed the 100-yard receiving mark in his career.
The closest he came to 100 yards receiving was against the Atlanta Falcons earlier this season when he caught eight passes for 84 yards and a touchdown.
