The prestigious golf event, Blue Bay, has officially begun with an unexpected twist. Today’s round is not only a test of skill and precision but also a trial of adaptability to the weather’s whims. The American golfer Auston Kim emerged as the first-round leader, sharing her place at the top with A Lim Kim and Ayaka Furue, each scoring a 68. However, with the second round’s weather forecast, things are about to get interesting.
Day 2 of the tournament promises a wild mix of sun and showers. Participants, spectators, and officials alike should prepare for a warm yet gusty day with temperatures peaking at 32°C. However, the high humidity will make it feel more like a sweltering 37°C. The chances of rain are high at 91%, so intermittent showers are likely to drench the course. Winds blowing from the east at a speed of 22km/h, gusting up to 52 km/h, will further add to the unpredictability of the game. The UV index of 8 indicates the intensity of the sun, so keeping cool, dry, and protected from the sun is crucial.
The evening isn’t expected to offer much relief either. As AccuWeather reports, the mercury will dip to a low of 26°C, with a RealFeel of 30°C. The likelihood of precipitation remains high at 75%, with a total rainfall of about 6.0 mm predicted over 2.5 hours. This creates an atmosphere of anticipation, with golfers having to strategize for the wet conditions and possible delays, adding a unique layer of complexity to the game.
The Round 1 of Blue Bay 2025 was marked by standout performances. Auston Kim, the 23-year-old American golfer, stole the limelight as the only player with a bogey-free round, scoring a -4. This was her first bogey-free round this season and the 8th of her career. A Lim Kim and Ayaka Furue matched her score, creating a three-way tie at the top. Trailing them was world No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul, who impressed everyone with a streak of four consecutive birdies, repeating her feat for the third time this season.
The competition did not stop there. Thitikul was joined by eight other golfers, including Cassie Porter, Shuying Li, Mi Hyang Lee, Rio Takeda, Ina Yoon, Gaby Lopez, and Kristen Gilman, all scoring -3. A further 12 players were two shots behind the lead pack. Ruoning Yin, despite being at T33, drew attention by scoring a par 72 in her home country.
However, defending champion Bailey Tardy seems to be off to a rocky start, currently tied at T75 with a 3-over and trailing seven shots behind the lead.
With the unpredictability of the weather and the intense competition, this event is shaping up to be a fascinating spectacle. Who will rise to the occasion and claim victory? Let the drama unfold!
