The Shohei Ohtani race is nearly at the finish line.
Ohtani, MLB’s most prominent, talented, and complete free agent in history, is down to a handful of teams in the decision process after hearing pitches, rumors, meetings, and several rounds of negotiations.
According to the most recent reports, the Japanese two-way star is nearing a decision.
It’s a matter of days.
“News: Shohei Ohtani is expected to decide on his free-agent destination before the end of the weekend, as I reported today on @MLBNetwork,” MLB insider Jon Morosi tweeted.

Before the end of the weekend is a somewhat loose term: it could mean Wednesday, just as it could mean Sunday.
But it won’t be after Sunday.
We are about to learn where Ohtani will play for the next eight, nine, or even ten (or more!) years.
At this point, as of Wednesday afternoon, the teams with known chances of getting their man are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Angels, the Atlanta Braves, the San Francisco Giants, and the Chicago Cubs.
The Cubs’ chances are not as good as they used to be, though.
Ohtani won’t pitch in 2024 because of an elbow injury, but will likely return to active pitching duties in 2025 to help his next team.
In the meantime, he will continue to be one of the most terrorizing offensive players in baseball.
He is a two-time MVP winner in the American League and hit 44 homers with a 1.066 OPS this past season, virtually in five months.
He is about to make a fanbase really, really happy.
