After the Philadelphia Eagle suffered a loss to the San Francisco 49ers last week, the Dallas Cowboys now only trail the top spot in the NFC East by one game.
The Cowboys have a great opportunity to erase that one-game deficit this weekend when they host the Eagles in Dallas for a Sunday night divisional showdown.
If the Cowboys are able to get a win on Sunday, they will insert themselves into contention for the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff bracket this season.
FS1’s Michael Irvin believes things will go differently than the first time these two teams met this year back in Week 9 when Philadelphia left the field with a 28-23 victory, and the reason will be the high level that Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott has been playing at recently.

“The reason this will be different is because Dak Prescott is now different. He’s ready to take this step.” pic.twitter.com/7OwxVlnsLL

Irvin emphasized that the MVP chatter currently surrounding Prescott will become much more serious if he can lead the Cowboys to a win over the Eagles on Sunday.
He’s certainly not wrong, as this weekend’s NFC East battle could be a turning point for Dallas this season, as it could be a time in which they look back on and remember when their success in 2023 really began to take off.
Getting a win over Philadelphia certainly won’t be easy for the Cowboys though.
With the Eagles losing last week, they’ll be looking to prove that they are still not only the best team in the NFC East, but the best team in the entire NFC.
Expect Sunday night’s matchup to be another classic contest in the historic rivalry between the Cowboys and Eagles.
