The New England Patriots have been used to success over the past two decades, but right now, they’re 2-10 and grasping for something that will help them improve.
While they rank last in points and near the bottom of the NFL in several other offensive categories, their defense has also been problematic at times.
On Thursday, they made a move they hope will bolster their defensive depth by claiming linebacker Christian Elliss off waivers.
The Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, and Miami Dolphins were also vying for him, but New England beat them out, per Field Yates.
New Patriots LB Christian Elliss was an extremely popular player on waivers, as six teams put in a claim on him, per source:

Elliss went undrafted in 2021 after playing four seasons at the University of Idaho and being named to the All-Big Sky first-team twice.
In the pros, he has spent three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, playing a total of 19 games with them and totaling 35 tackles (24 solo) and two tackles for loss.
The Eagles waived him after they snagged linebacker Shaquille Leonard, a four-time Pro Bowler.
The Patriots have given up 20 points or fewer in each of their last four games, but they still have plenty of holes on the defensive side of the football.
They rank 15th in points given up, 25th in fumbles lost by the opposition, and 29th in forced turnovers.
On Thursday, the Patriots will visit the surprising Pittsburgh Steelers, who are 7-5 and have been an excellent defensive team.
Yates reported that the move to sign Elliss will be deferred, and therefore he will not suit up for for New England versus the Steelers.
