Three weeks ago, the Seattle Seahawks had a 6-3 record, and they were in full control of a wild-card spot in the NFC playoff picture.
Since then, the Seahawks have dropped three straight games, and now a spot in the postseason for them this season is in legitimate doubt.
Part of Seattle’s struggles during the last few weeks has been related to a number of notable players on their roster dealing with injuries, including quarterback Geno Smith.
With Smith still a bit banged up and Drew Lock being the only other signal-caller on their active roster, the Seahawks decided to add a veteran passer to their practice squad on Friday in the form of Sean Mannion.

Mannion has been in the league since he was selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Rams back when they were located in St. Louis.
He wound up spending four seasons with the Rams, and since 2019, he’s had stints with the Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings.
Yes, this is not Mannion’s first time as a member of the Seahawks, as he was with the team in 2021 during the preseason, and he was also a member of the team’s practice squad last season.
During his career in the NFL, Mannion has started three games, and he’s thrown for a total of 573 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.
Considering there’s about a month left in the 2023 regular season, there wasn’t much for Seattle to choose from when it came to finding a quarterback that was available.
So, at the very least, they were able to add someone who is already familiar with how the Seahawks run everything.
