A New Beginning on the Field
Zach Banner, previously active with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an offensive tackle, is set for a fresh start after overcoming a significant knee injury that halted his career. He has signed with the Houston Roughnecks of the United Football League and will join his new team in Arlington, Texas, for training camp beginning March 3.
A Journey Through the Ranks
Banner’s career has seen various chapters since his All-Pac-12 honors at USC. After declaring for the 2017 NFL Draft, he was selected in the fourth round and experienced multiple team changes early in his professional journey. He found roles with several franchises, gradually establishing himself in the league and eventually earning a starting position with Pittsburgh in 2019. His presence grew until a torn ACL during Week 1 forced him to miss the remainder of that season.
Overcoming Setbacks and Looking Forward
Despite the setback in 2020 and ongoing challenges with his knee—including limited game participation in the following season—Banner’s determination has remained strong. Now, with the Houston Roughnecks, he has the opportunity to redeem himself in the UFL. The Roughnecks are gearing up for their season opener at home against the St. Louis Battlehawks on March 28, scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. EST kickoff from TDECU Stadium in Houston, Texas. This new chapter offers Banner a chance to contribute and reinvigorate his career on a fresh stage.
