The weekend in MLB was full of speculation, rumors, false information, and a big reporting mistake.
On Friday, MLB insider Jon Morosi had reported that Shohei Ohtani was on a plane to Toronto, sparking all kinds of rumors about him potentially signing with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Later that day, multiple insiders reported the contrary: that Ohtani was at home in Southern California and wasn’t on his way to Toronto.
A day later, on Saturday, he himself reported his decision to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers via Instagram.
What happened?
Morosi, usually one of the most accurate news-breakers in the industry, talked to “The Mayor’s Office” podcast and explained his version.
“Jon Morosi on reporting that Shohei Ohtani was on his way to Toronto: ‘I got some information that I trusted and I reported it and I was wrong. That mistake is mine and mine alone. There’s no one to blame for it but me,’” Adam Laskaris tweeted.

He said he is deeply sorry for his mistake, because it led to thousands of people to believe Ohtani was signing with the Blue Jays.
He was classy all the way, refusing to blame his source and owning up to his mistake.
He also said he is really grateful for the support he has received.
These things can happen from time to time, and they often serve as a learning moment.
Information, especially something of this magnitude, should be handled with care, and one has to confirm every report or rumor before hitting that “tweet” (or “post”) button.
