Sergio Garcia, the golfing sensation, achieved another noteworthy victory at the LIV Golf tournament in Hong Kong, marking another milestone in his impressive career resurgence since his move from the PGA Tour. Garcia’s individual prowess, coupled with his leadership, steered his team, Fireballs GC, to a triumphant team win.
Garcia’s name is not unknown in the annals of golf history, with his enviable record and unquenched thirst to compete in yet another Ryder Cup. His ambitions remain unhidden, as evidenced by his settlement of DP World Tour fines in a bid to secure his Ryder Cup dreams. His interaction with Luke Donald regarding this prospect has also been well documented.
Following his recent victory in Hong Kong, Garcia shared his enthusiasm for his role as the senior figure in Fireballs, hinting at his keen focus on Bethpage Black.
Engaging in a post-victory dialogue, Garcia expressed his enjoyment of LIV and his significant contribution to it by sharing his wealth of experience. “I love it. I obviously love it. I do have two young ones of my own that we also take care of, my wife and I,” Garcia said. He went on to talk about his love for the team dynamic and his role in mentoring younger players, aiming to help them achieve their best on the golf course.
However, Garcia’s 2025 ambitions are not solely focused on LIV Golf. The Ryder Cup remains on his radar. When questioned about this, Garcia revealed his ongoing communication with Luke Donald. “I think he’s watching,” Garcia admitted. “We’ve been in touch, so I know that he’s keeping an eye. The only thing I can do is keep playing good golf, and I just want to help the European team like I’ve tried to do every single time I’ve been a member of that team, and hopefully, he will think I’m good enough for it.”
Can Garcia claim another major? Winning the 54-hole LIV Golf tournament is one thing, but claiming a major championship is another challenge altogether. Despite having a Masters title to his name and the opportunity to add more, Garcia’s absence from The Open last year led to doubts about his game. However, the golf veteran remains unfazed and confident about his potential for future big wins.
“I’m not done,” Garcia stated confidently. “I think with the way that I’ve played over these last few years, but mostly this year, it definitely shows me that I can. I played very well at the US Open without too much stuff really going my way – I finished 12th – so I felt like I had a little bit of an outside chance there. The way I’ve been playing, it gives me the feeling that I’m not done in that aspect. I will give myself chances, and then it comes down to little things here and there, but I still feel like I can give myself chances.”
With another LIV win added to his decorated career and his form seemingly at its peak, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Garcia making headlines in 2025.
