The Denver Broncos entered the season as one of the potential dark horses to come out of the AFC West.
After watching them struggle so mightily in the early stage of the campaign, some thought they were poised to blow up their roster and tank, but that wasn’t the case.
Sean Payton’s team kept fighting through adversity, and it paid off.
As pointed out by Zac Sevens, the Broncos are the only team in the division with a winning record (5-1) over the past six games.
The Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, and Las Vegas Raiders are all 2-4 over that span, and that speaks volumes of the current status of the division.
AFC West record past six games:
5-1 Broncos
2-4 Chiefs
2-4 Chargers
2-4 Raiders— Zac Stevens (@ZacStevensDNVR) December 12, 2023
The Raiders aren’t a good team, and it might take a while before they change that distinction, even if they keep Antonio Pierce as their full-time coach.
The Chargers continue to have one of the best rosters in the game, but they keep underperforming, and only a miracle could save Brandon Staley from losing his job.
As for the Chiefs, they’re still the reigning Super Bowl champions, but it seems like other teams have finally caught up to their once-elite defense, and their lack of talent at the receiving corps has held them back all year long.
As things stand out, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Broncos finish the season strong and run away with the divisional title.
They’re just one game behind the Chiefs, and their schedule for the remainder of the year is quite favorable.
