Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera ended his farewell season just a few weeks ago.
One of the best right-handed hitters of our generation, he said goodbye and entered into retirement having hit 511 career home runs, 627 doubles, and with a .306 batting average.
He won two MVP awards, a Triple Crown, a World Series championship, multiple Silver Sluggers, batting crowns, and other achievements in a brilliant MLB tenure.
He decided to rest for a few days, but then started preparing for the Venezuelan League’s Home Run Derby.
Called “Festival del Jonrón Pepsi”, the Derby took place on Monday and had lots of star-level names: Cabrera, Ronald Acuna Jr., Jose Rondon, Eduardo Escobar, Jackson Chourio, Yasiel Puig, Rougned Odor, Francisco Alvarez, Wilson Garcia, Eugenio Suarez, Anthony Santander, and Gleyber Torres.
Puig eliminated Cabrera in the first round of the event, but the crowd went crazy with the future Hall of Famer nonetheless.
“Miguel Cabrera competing in a off-season Home Run Derby is exactly what I needed for my weekly baseball fix,” Calico Joe tweeted, proof that people on social media were actually enjoying the star-studded show.

In the end, it was Acuna as the one who stood above the rest again.
He defeated the young Chourio, who recently signed a big extension with the Milwaukee Brewers, in the first round.
Then, he bested Rondon in the semifinal and Puig in the final to win the competition in spectacular fashion.
Fans loved it.
As for Cabrera, it was a cool way to re-connect with Venezuelan fans at the stadium.
It was a cool ending to his year.
