Many great MLB players have a hard time knowing when it is time to retire.
We have seen some great players continue to play into their 40s, even as a shell of themselves.
But if a player thinks they can still play they will try to do so.
One player who is still looking to pitch next season is former Cy Young winner Zack Greinke.
He is 40 years old and is coming off a putrid statistical season.
Last season for the Royals, Greinke had a 2-15 record with a 5.06 ERA.
According to Jon Morosi, Greinke is open to contract talks and plans on finding a team for next season.
Zack Greinke’s representatives have communicated to @MLB teams that he’s preparing to pitch in 2024 and is open to contract talks.

One reason Greinke may be holding on is that he is close to 3,000 career strikeouts.
He has 2,979 and if he pitches next season, he will surely get to 3,000.
Greinke has spent his last 20 years in baseball and he is hoping for at least one more season.
It will be interesting to see what his market looks like.
He no longer has a dominant pitch repertoire but he can serve as a fourth or fifth starter on some teams.
Greinke can help eat innings and that could be valuable to some teams with starting pitching issues.
While his 2-15 record is not appealing, it does not help that he pitched for the Royals last year.
They finished with 56 wins and were the second-worst team in baseball.
Greinke may not have much of a market for his services.
But he deserves a chance to reach 3,000 strikeouts and hopefully, he will get it.
