Do the Los Angeles Chargers have a Thursday Night Football problem?
The Chargers are coming off one of the most significant losses of the 2023 season, losing 63-21 to the Las Vegas Raiders.
This was an incredibly dominant game by the Raiders, the latest in what has been an unfortunate trend for the Chargers organization.
Jeremy Fowler recently highlighted the Chargers’ last three TNF games and how they have been unkind to Brandon Staley’s team.
The Chargers lost an overtime TNF game in 2021 to the Kansas City Chiefs because of a failed fourth-down conversion.
Then, in 2022, they also lost to the Chiefs on TNF, in another dramatic three-point loss.
Thursday nights have been rough on Brandon Staley and the #Chargers
2021: Lost in OT to Chiefs, failing to convert controversial fourth down while in FG range
2022: Three-point loss to Chiefs
2023: 63-21 loss to Raiders

This team cannot get the Thursday night-sized monkey off their back, for whatever reason.
This could be another reason for fans and analysts to criticize Staley, who has been on the hot seat throughout the season.
If he cannot lead his team to wins in primetime, that does not bode well for future playoff games.
With this trend in mind, particularly considering this blowout loss on TNF, Staley might be out the door by season’s end.
Nothing is confirmed, but if fan and analyst predictions indicate anything, things aren’t looking great for the third-year coach.
The Chiefs have dominated the AFC West for the past seven years and are on track to win it again this year.
At this point, it will take significant changes for a team like the Chargers to fight for the top spot, and a new head coach could be a step in the right direction.
