The Carolina Panthers have been through everything this season.
Now, Joe Person reports that the team is expected to place tight end Hayden Hurst on Injured Reserve (IR), shutting him down for the season (via Ari Meirov).
The #Panthers are placing TE Hayden Hurst on IR, ending his season, per @josephperson. Hurst suffered a concussion in Week 10 vs. the Bears, and his dad recently posted that his son had been diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia as a result of the hit he took in that game. pic.twitter.com/xXSiyqgB6v

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as he was just diagnosed with a form of amnesia after suffering a concussion vs. the Chicago Bears in Week 10.
His father had confirmed on Twitter that his son had been diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia.
Then, the former Cincinnati Bengal admitted on social media that he didn’t remember anything up to four hours after the game, calling it a “very scary situation.”
The 30-year-old had 18 receptions for 184 yards and one score in nine appearances in his first season for the Panthers, scoring the first touchdown in Bryce Young’s career.
Hurst was expected to keep playing this season.
He had been a limited participant in practices, and it seemed like he was on the verge of being cleared after entering the league’s concussion protocol.
Then, he stopped practicing this week, and with the Panthers sitting on a 1-12 record, it seems like it doesn’t make a lot of sense to risk further injury after such a big scare.
The tight end confirmed that his brain injury wasn’t life-threatening or career-ending, but one can only wonder if going back to the field at his age would be the wisest thing to do after suffering from post-traumatic amnesia, especially playing for a team that’s not going to be very good for the foreseeable future.
