Even though the Detroit Lions have lost two of their last three games, this has still been quite a season for them.
The long-suffering franchise has a 9-4 record and has an excellent chance of finishing first in the NFC North, and it should also have a real shot at winning a playoff game for the first time since the 1991 season.
Even though the Lions don’t have a superstar running back, they’re in the top five in both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, and it is because of their dynamic duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.
Both rank among the top-eight running backs in both scrimmage yards and rushing yards per game this season, per NFL Network.

Last season, Detroit had Jamaal Williams as their starting running back, and he did well, leading the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns, and once he left in free agency, the team knew it had to replace his production.
Montgomery was signed as a free agent from the Chicago Bears, and he’s having his best season since coming into the league in 2019 with 10 touchdowns and 770 rushing yards.
Gibbs, the No. 12 pick in April’s draft, has scored six touchdowns and run for 692 yards so far this year.
While the Lions are a well-rounded team offensively, their defense is their main concern.
Defensive lineman Aidan Hutchinson, who is in his second season, could be a future star, but they rank just 24th in points given up.
Detroit’s remaining schedule is challenging — they will face the Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys once and the Minnesota Vikings twice, and these games could project how they will do in the playoffs.
