The Philadelphia Phillies are hoping to add as much talent to their roster as possible.
So far this offseason they have made one substantial signing and that was bringing back Aaron Nola.
But, the Phillies have more work to do to catch up to the top teams in the league.
The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers are both better on paper.
Even though the game is not played on paper, having a lesser roster is tough to overcome.
But, to close the gap the Phillies are looking to add to their starting rotation.
One player they are interested in is Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
He is the Japanese pitching star who is set to sign with an MLB team this offseason.
Yamamoto has already taken a few visits to teams and he could make his decision soon.
One player the Phillies sent in to try and sway Yamamoto was two-time MVP Bryce Harper.
According to Jon Morosi, Harper talked to Yamamoto on FaceTime as a part of the Phillies’ presentation.

It is always good when one of your star players is a part of the recruiting pitch.
But it remains to be seen if that will be enough to sign Yamamoto.
Like most MLB free agents, it will probably come down to money.
Whichever team is willing to offer Yamamoto the most will land his services.
The frontrunner looks to be the Dodgers as they are going all-in to win this year.
But, any team looking for a potential ace should not hesitate to try and land the potential ace.
