The Detroit Tigers have been, quite shockingly, one of the most active teams in the offseason.
They finished second in the AL Central with a surprisingly decent and potentially encouraging 78-84 record.
They feel they are on the verge of contention, so they went to work and added a few pieces.
They brought in outfielder and on-base dynamo Mark Canha via trade, and they signed three arms: starters Kenta Maeda and Jack Flaherty, and reliever Andrew Chafin.
They are all veterans, so the Tigers have signaled their intentions: they want to compete now, which is refreshing for the league.
Better yet: they still want to be active in the free agent and trade markets.
“‘We’re in a position now given what we’ve done, we can be opportunistic.’ After adding Kenta Maeda, Andrew Chafin and (reportedly) Jack Flaherty, the #Tigers are still looking for more arms,” MLB Network tweeted, with quotes of general manager Jeff Greenberg.

Greenberg took over as general manager a few months ago, and has worked alongside president of baseball operations Scott Harris.
Together, they have been slowly building a Tigers roster that could compete in 2024.
With Miguel Cabrera’s salary off the books, as well as Eduardo Rodriguez, the team is ready to rely on a young core to take them as far as they can.
Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson, and Kerry Carpenter are very talented, as are pitchers Casey Mize, Matt Manning, Tarik Skubal, Reese Olson, Alex Faedo, and Joey Wentz.
If most of them do what they did last year and some improve, the Tigers could do some interesting things next season.
