The debate over which team is the best in the NFL won’t be decided until the Super Bowl is played in February, but analysts have nevertheless staked their reputation to teams as the regular season has rolled on.
There are currently six teams with at least 10 wins this season and two with 11 wins each through 15 weeks.
That’s where the discussion starts, but former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman thinks the conversation should end with the team that is at the top of the NFC: The San Francisco 49ers.
“The San Francisco 49ers are the best team in the National Football League,” Sherman said. “And they have been for the majority of the season.”

The 49ers just dismantled the Arizona Cardinals in a 45-29 win in Week 15 – the highest San Francisco’s scored all season long – to clinch the NFC West title for a second consecutive year.
The team also ranks third in scoring offense, second in scoring defense, and has the highest point differential in the NFL.
The 49ers have two MVP candidates on their offense with quarterback Brock Purdy and running back Christian McCaffrey.
Huge wins over some of the other best teams in the league like the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys further strengthen San Francisco’s claim.
But a Week 16 Monday night match with the Baltimore Ravens could ultimately decide which team is best before the end of the regular season.
The Ravens have the same record as the 49ers at 11-3, the best scoring defense in the NFL, the fourth-best scoring offense in the NFL, and a slightly worse point differential.
It could all come down to Monday night.
