The New England Patriots’ ineptitude this season continued with a 27-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, and while they actually led 10-7 in the second quarter, they didn’t score again until the fourth quarter when they were down 27-10.
Patrick Mahomes threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns, which was an encouraging sign for a Chiefs passing game that has struggled and been uneven all season.
For the Patriots, cornerback J.C. Jackson didn’t play and wasn’t even on the sideline because he is reportedly dealing with a mental health issue.
Teammate Matthew Slater, who is tight with Jackson, made it clear he supports Jackson, per Mike Reiss.
Captain Matthew Slater, whose connection to J.C. Jackson is reflected in part by how he refers to him by his birth name Jerald, on how he supports Jackson:

Jackson, who went undrafted in 2018, spent his first four seasons with the Patriots, and he helped them with their most recent Super Bowl championship as a rookie.
He left to join the Los Angeles Chargers as a free agent prior to last season, but he had lots of trouble staying healthy.
After playing just five games in 2022, the Chargers traded him back to the Patriots in early October of this year.
In eight games back in his old stomping grounds, Jackson has six passes defended and 25 tackles (solo).
This has been an unusually miserable season for the Patriots, and while their offense has been awful, their defense has, at times, been somewhat solid, as they had held five straight opponents to 20 or fewer points coming into Sunday.
As recently as 2021, Jackson was named to the Pro Bowl, as he led the league with 23 passes defended while adding eight interceptions.
