The Philadelphia Eagles have been known over the past few years for their unique iteration of the quarterback sneak.
This is called the “tush push,” “brotherly shove,” and several other clever titles, depending on who you talk to.
While this play has received scrutiny from analysts, fans, and other NFL teams, the league hasn’t made any rules against it.
This has resulted in great success for the Eagles, getting numerous first downs and touchdowns from this play.
Despite this play being largely dominant, it has its faults.
This was evident in the Eagles’ loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football when Jason Kelce was flagged for a false start on this play.
After the game, Kelce admitted fault for his mistake rather than speaking poorly of the referees.
According to Kelce via Pro Football Talk, “They’ve been warning me of that for years,” Kelce said. “I had a tendency to do that in the past so they’ve definitely warned me before.”

As Pro Football Talk points out, this false start happened when the Eagles were on the Seahawks’ three-yard line.
While a single play does not necessarily dictate the outcome of a game, the Eagles had to kick a field goal rather than get a potential touchdown after this penalty.
This penalty might have been costly in this game, but Kelce and the Eagles cannot dwell on this moving forward.
They are in the middle of a three-game losing streak and cannot afford to get in their heads.
For a team that is the reigning NFC champions, they will need to quickly get back on the right track, mitigating mistakes and winning games they are expected to.
