The Pittsburgh Pirates are a team we usually do not hear much from in free agency.
But, if they find an opportunity to improve their roster they are going to take it.
One spot where the Pirates struggled last season was starting pitching.
Luckily for them, they found a solid starting pitcher for cheap in free agency.
According to Mark Feinsand, the Pirates have signed Martin Perez to a one-year, $8 million contract.
The Pirates have agreed to a one-year, $8 million deal with LHP Martin Perez, per source. @ByRobertMurray and @JMackeyPG were on it.

Perez was a member of the Texas Rangers last season.
He pitched admirably for them during the regular season with a 10-4 record and a 4.45 ERA.
Next season he will be 33 and it remains to be seen how much he has left in the tank.
At best, Perez can be used as a middle-of-the-rotation starter.
Also, his experience can help some of the younger pitchers on the Pirates.
It will be interesting to see if the Pirates can compete in the NL Central next season.
While they do not have a great roster, there is not a team in the Central that should scare anyone.
The Pirates could improve their chances if they continue spending money.
Most of the successful teams in baseball are the ones will high payrolls.
Baseball is different from other sports as you can buy a great team.
The Pirates do not have the money available to compete with the Dodgers or Yankees.
But, they do have enough to at least make themselves competitive in their division.
There are still many good free agents on the open market, and the Pirates would be wise to target a few of them.
