The Atlanta Falcons have found themselves in a difficult situation.
They spent the offseason investing in their defense, signing key free agents to help them succeed on that side of the ball.
While their defense has exceeded the team’s expectations, their offense has not, despite having three first-round picks as their top skill-position players.
Something has to change for this team if they want to make a significant playoff run in 2024 and beyond.
If Josina Anderson’s latest tweet is any indication, Arthur Smith’s tenure could end, which is a potential reason for the team’s struggles.
“I’m told sentiments of dismay are rising around Arthur Smith in Atlanta particularly after their 9-7 loss to the Panthers, per source; though no definitive decision has been publicly relayed on his tenure,” Anderson said.

We’ll see how it goes. They face the Colts, Bears & Saints next.

While there hasn’t been anything definite about Smith in one way or another, Anderson believes that a changing of the guard could be on the horizon.
The team hasn’t committed to Smith being their coach in 2024, which can sometimes be a sign that a coach is on the outs.
Of course, if the Falcons win their final three games of the year, somehow sneaking into the playoffs, a conversation will need to be had.
If Smith can take this team to the playoffs despite not having confidence in his quarterbacks, the team might be forced to consider keeping him around.
There are a lot of decisions this front office will need to make heading into the offseason.
Yes, Smith’s role as head coach will be a significant topic for discussion, but so will the team’s quarterback status.
Desmond Ridder has been benched for Taylor Heinicke, and neither player seems to be a part of the team’s long-term plans.
What moves will the Falcons make to put themselves in a better position in 2024?
