The Kansas City Royals were, without a doubt, one of the worst teams in MLB during the 2023 campaign with a horrible 56-106 record.
Their season was an unmitigated disaster, and there is no other way around it.
The Royals have hit rock bottom, but are determined to get better from this point forward.
New general manager J.J. Picollo went to work this offseason and is signing quality players to put a competitive product on the field.

The Royals have bolstered their rotation with Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha, two former San Diego Padres that had ERAs below 3.60 in 2023 and are much, much better than any pitcher the Royals have had recently except for Cole Ragans.
They also gambled on speedster Garrett Hampson and reinforced their lineup with power hitter Hunter Renfroe.
They traded prospect Jackson Kowar for injured starter Kyle Wright.
Wright was one of the best pitchers in MLB in 2022, but suffered a torn shoulder capsule that needed to be operated and he will be out for the entire 2024 campaign.
An area in which Kansas City focused this offseason was the bullpen.
Between trades and free-agent signings, they brought in World Series champions Will Smith and Chris Stratton, plus Nick Anderson and lottery ticket Matt Sauer.
The Royals have really revamped their roster around Bobby Witt Jr., Salvador Perez, Vinnie Pasquantino, Brady Singer, and Ragans.
Will it be enough to get out of last place in the AL Central?
How about competing for a playoff spot?
We will have to wait and see, but fans are allowed to have some hope at long last.
