Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud has taken the NFL by storm this season, and he already looks like one of the best signal-callers in the league.
He has put the Houston Texans in position to make the playoffs, something that initially seemed about as likely as a foot of snow falling in Houston during the wintertime.
Unfortunately for the Texans, Stroud missed last weekend’s game versus the Tennessee Titans because he’s been in concussion protocol, and as a result, he’s expected to miss their Christmas Eve contest against the Cleveland Browns.
Naturally, there is concern about Stroud’s timeline for a return, but when head coach DeMeco Ryans was asked about whether Stroud’s concussion could end his season, Ryans responded positively, per Shaun Bijani.

Gave us about the best response possible. Good news.

Stroud is the heavy favorite to win this season’s Rookie of the Year award thanks to his 3,631 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns, and three rushing touchdowns.
What has made him all the more exciting is a couple of clutch, game-winning drives he has led this year against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cincinnati Bengals.
He has gotten help from wide receiver Nico Collins and Tank Dell, although one has to also argue he has elevated their play as well.
Houston’s upcoming game versus the Browns will be a difficult one, as the injury-riddled Browns have found ways to consistently defeat more talented opponents.
Assuming Stroud isn’t cleared for that contest, Case Keenum, who started in Week 15, is expected to be under center once again.
After playing Cleveland, the Texans will play the Titans before taking on the Indianapolis Colts, another team fighting for a playoff spot, to close out the regular season.
