Winning the NFL MVP award is among the most prestigious honors in a player’s career.
This signals that they are, quite literally, the most impactful player on their team and are recognized for that achievement on a national scale.
The 2023 NFL MVP race is seemingly between two players, as Dak Prescott and Brock Purdy are a split vote in the public eye.
Nick Wright endorsed Purdy in a “First Things First” segment, saying, “Purdy’s going to win because he’s overachieved our expectations.”
“Is Brock Purdy more valuable to SF than Lamar Jackson is to Baltimore? … I think Purdy’s going to win the award. We all believe Christian McCaffrey is the best skill position guy on the team. But Purdy’s going to win bc he’s overachieved our expectations.” — @getnickwright pic.twitter.com/0fdIfXju5s

He looked at the differences between Prescott and Purdy, noting that Purdy has performed better in every statistical category.
Purdy has a higher completion percentage, yards per game, total touchdowns, the same number of interceptions, more yards per pass, and a better passer rating.
In Wright’s mind, Purdy is more valuable to his team and a surprising player this year.
Expectations were tempered for the 49ers coming into the year.
Yes, they still had one of the league’s best defenses, but with Purdy coming off a shoulder surgery, his potential impact on this team was unknown.
He and the 49ers have exceeded all previously-believed expectations, which has put them atop the NFC.
They are guaranteed home-field advantage throughout the playoffs as long as they win the rest of their games.
Purdy will need to continue this strong play into the offseason, but with no signs of slowing down, this could be the team to beat for the Super Bowl.
Will another team emerge in the coming weeks to challenge the 49ers, especially in the NFC?
