The Indianapolis Colts weren’t exactly considered to be much of a contending team when the season began.
Jonathan Taylor’s potential departure and all the questions around Anthony Richardson made it seem like this could be another long season in Indianapolis.
Then, with Richardson’s injury and Gardner Minshew taking the reins of the offense, the picture wasn’t that optimistic.
Nonetheless, as pointed out by Josh Palmer of NFL Network, the Colts have the second-best record in the league (5-1) since Week 9, trailing only the 6-0 San Francisco 49ers.
Only the 49ers (6-0) have a better record than the Colts (5-1) since Week 9.

Of course, they’ve beaten the Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and they failed to compete with the Cincinnati Bengals, so maybe we could take that number with a grain of salt.
Then again, Shane Steichen has done an outstanding job in his first year in charge of the team.
They seem to be far ahead of schedule, and while Minshew continues to make some erratic throws and head-scratching mistakes from time to time, he’s also made some impressive plays and continues to find ways to move the chains.
The Colts still have an opportunity to take down both the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans and win their division, which seemed impossible before the start of the season.
That should give the fans plenty of hope for the future., and while Richardson could go through some growing pains in his first full season in the league, it seems like they’re in great hands right now, at least coaching-wise.
