The Kansas City Chiefs may be 9-5 and have a manageable schedule to close out the NFL regular season, but they have quite a bit of work to do before the playoffs start.
They haven’t quite looked like their vintage selves this season, especially on offense, where they have lacked any reliable or productive weapons other than star tight end Travis Kelce.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes said per Matt McMullen that they need to be playing their best football going into the postseason.
“You want to be playing your best football going into the playoffs.”

Kansas City defeated the New England Patriots last weekend, but the victory wasn’t impressive, as they won by only 10 points over a team that’s only 3-11.
While Mahomes completed 27 of 37 passes and threw two touchdown passes, he also threw two interceptions, with one of those interceptions coming in the fourth quarter and almost immediately leading to a Patriots touchdown.
Meanwhile, their running game produced a paltry 43 yards.
All season long, the departures of both Tyreek Hill and JuJu Smith-Schuster have loomed large, and while rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice has 754 yards and seven touchdowns on the season, he and the team’s other wideouts have had lots of dropped passes this season.
The one thing that may be keeping the Chiefs on top of the AFC West this year is their defense, which is fourth in total yards allowed and third in points given up.
They will play the 6-8 Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day before taking on the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers to close out the regular season.
One would figure the Chiefs will likely win all three games, but with all the close losses they have had, one cannot be too sure.
