The San Francisco 49ers failed in one of their biggest challenges of the season.
Of course, there should be no shame in losing to the AFC’s leaders, and the Baltimore Ravens have been almost perfect in every facet of the game.
Then again, turning the ball over four times and losing 33-19 at home wasn’t the kind of message they wanted to send during a potential Super Bowl preview.
That’s why QB Brock Purdy admitted to being in pain after throwing four picks in the loss, although he did vow to be better in the final stretch of the season (Via 49ers on NBC Sports).
“It pains me,” Purdy said in reference to how he feels about his turnovers.
“It pains me.”

Even though at least two of those picks weren’t entirely on him, he pretty much threw the MVP away — no pun intended — in that loss.
There were already plenty of doubts regarding the fact that he was the leading MVP candidate, as some still believe he’s just a system quarterback and shouldn’t be granted such a big honor.
Even so, Brock Purdy should be focused on bigger goals right now.
The Niners are still the team to beat in the NFC, and they’ve fared better than both the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.
This loss was a big blow to their aspirations, and they’ll have to wait at least another week before securing the No. 1 seed in the conference, but at least they’ll have more than enough time to hit the drawing board and go back to what made them successful during most of the season.
