The Denver Broncos currently have a 6% chance of making the playoffs.
Sitting at a 7-8 record, their resurgence was a little too late.
They didn’t have a lot of margin for error, and it now seems like they’re just not going to be able to turn the season around.
With that in mind, NFL analyst Jonathan Jones shared an interesting thought.
“The Broncos have a big decision ahead of them. Play Russell Wilson in a season that will end in 2 games and risk potentially guaranteeing him an extra $37M, or sit him the rest of the way,” Jones said.

The Broncos now have to make an uncomfortable decision regarding Russell Wilson.
They could either play him in hopes of making the playoffs, even knowing the chances are quite slim, which would mean risking paying him an additional $37 million, or pretty much give up on the season and just sit him for the remainder of the year.
Truth be told, even if Wilson was better this season, he still looks far from a franchise quarterback, not to mention one making as much money as he’s making right now.
It’s been more than evident that HC Sean Payton doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with him, and perhaps trying to explore different options in the offseason wouldn’t be the worst idea at Mile High.
Then again, given all they had to give up to get him in the first place, that decision would be a big blow to the front office and decision-makers.
The Broncos refused to blow up their roster earlier in the season and chose to stay competitive, and they were the hottest team in the league during a stretch.
Will they try and fight their way into the playoffs again or will they take the conservative approach? This remains to be seen.
