The Washington Commanders might look very different next season.
One of those big changes they could go through might be at the quarterback position.
There was some back and forth regarding Sam Howell, and now it seems like even his head coach has lost his faith in him.
According to the league’s official Twitter account, Ron Rivera has made it official: Jacoby Brissett will be the team’s starting QB in Week 17.

This is far from a surprise at this point.
Rivera benched Howell in favor of the veteran last week, and they almost pulled off a 30-point comeback vs. the New York Jets’ stout defensive front.
Brissett is by no means a permanent solution, as he’s a veteran and has been a backup for most of his career, but the fact that they still decided to roll with him during a meaningless game in a lost season speaks volumes of Howell’s future with the team.
To be fair, the Commanders’ issues go way beyond the QB position.
They appear poorly coached, their defense is the worst in the league, and Eric Bieniemy also failed to establish his mark and offensive expertise in his first year in charge of the offense.
There’s still a chance that he gets an opportunity to prove himself somewhere else.
But with the Commanders going through an ownership change, they’re going to be one of the most aggressive teams in the league in the offseason, and they won’t hesitate to make a lot of changes.
