The Denver Broncos almost pulled off an epic season turnaround.
However, after starting off the season so poorly, their slim margin for error came back to bite them during the final stretch of the campaign.
Their chances of making the playoffs are quite low right now.
With that in mind, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the team is strongly considering sitting Russell Wilson for the final two games of the campaign.
Apparently, the team is looking forward to keeping some financial flexibility for the offseason, and Wilson has $37 million in 2025 salary that vests in March of 2024.
This means that a potential injury could complicate the team’s future plans for him in Denver.
Needless to say, the fans had plenty to say about this.
Wow. They can still make the playoffs and they’re shutting it down?

Sean Payton doesn’t want him imo. They just can’t get rid of him because it’ll be a huge cap hit

Truth be told, Wilson’s tenure in Denver has been fairly disappointing.
He went from being one of the most sought-after commodities in the league to looking like the weakest link on the team and a financial liability.
And while he fared much better than he did in his first year with the organization, it’s still more than evident that he doesn’t see eye-to-eye with HC Sean Payton.
That’s just the way things go in this business sometimes.
Teams make gambles and take risks but they don’t pay off, and as hard as it may seem, sometimes it’s better to take another step back, bite the bullet, and hit the drawing board again instead of just trying to do the same thing over and over when clearly it isn’t working.
