The Kansas City Chiefs have been under heavy scrutiny from the very start of the season.
Ever since they lost in the opener to the Detroit Lions, this team has been up and down and has struggled with countless issues.
So, now that the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage are both out of the question, some people don’t like their chances to go the distance in the postseason.
That includes NFL analyst Marcus Spears, who recently called them “pretenders” on ESPN’s “Get Up.”
Spears pointed out the fact that people have been so caught up in the Chiefs’ offensive miscues, penalties, drops, and whatnot that they haven’t paid attention to all the duress that Patrick Mahomes has had to endure week in and week out.
He believes that Mahomes and the Chiefs become so much more effective in the playoffs when he uses his legs, but he might not be able to do that this season after all the physical burden he has had to endure.
So, unless he plays at running back, Spears believes there’s just no way Andy Reid and his team can turn things around.
Truth be told, it’s hard to count out Mahomes, Reid, and Travis Kelce, but they haven’t done anything this season to make us think like they still have that Super Bowl aura and can just will their way to a win.
We’ll have to wait and see, but they’re looking more like a one-and-done team than a Super Bowl contender right now.
