Not every move made during the MLB offseason will move the needle.
Sometimes teams need to add depth pieces to help out the margins of their roster.
That is what the Toronto Blue Jays recently did with the signing of Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
He is not much of an offensive player, but he can play different roles for them.
Last season, Kiner-Falefa played 113 games for the New York Yankees.
He batted .242 in those games with six home runs and 37 RBI.
Yet, his aforementioned defensive versatility is what makes him valuable.
According to Codify, Kiner-Falefa played seven of the nine positions last year.
But, he spent most of his time in the outfield and at third base.
Just 0.0 WAR last year according to @baseball_ref and 0.2 WAR last year according to @fangraphs …
…but 278 innings in center field, 248 innings in left field, 240 innings at third base, 40 innings in right field, 8 innings at shortstop, 1 inning at second base, and even 4… https://t.co/wlRc2DfTgR

This lack of WAR goes to show he is not much of an offensive player.
But, having solid utility players is valuable.
In today’s MLB, not many teams place a premium on defense.
But, that seems to be what the Blue Jays are doing with their signing.
Kiner-Falefa won a Gold Glove award back in 2020.
Toronto is hoping he can get back to that level this season.
Still, this is a move that will not excite many of their fans.
The Blue Jays should be on the lookout for an impact bat that can help push them over the top.
It will be interesting to see what other moves the Blue Jays make this offseason.
Their fanbase will not be happy if Kiner-Falefa is the player they spend the most money on.
If the Blue Jays are serious about contending, they will make a big move.
