The Washington Commanders started the 2023 season with several unknowns.
While they announced that Sam Howell had won their quarterback competition, fans were unsure how long he would last as the starter.
Howell showed flashes throughout the season but has now been benched in favor of Jacoby Brissett.
Being that the Commanders have been eliminated from playoff contention, the team has effectively decided to throw in the towel.
This could be an opportunity for them to better their draft stock, as Dov Kleiman pointed out in a recent tweet.
Kleiman quoted Dan Graziano: “Watch what they do with Sam Howell over the final two weeks.”
They are reportedly ‘very interested’ in QB prospect Caleb Williams.

It seems like the Commanders are not satisfied with their current quarterback situation.
This could lead them to look elsewhere in the offseason or in the draft.
Williams has generated a lot of buzz, as many analysts believe he will be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
This could lead the Commanders to trade up for the first overall pick, as Graziano highlights via Kleiman.
If the season were to end today, the Commanders would be picking third overall.
They are only behind the Carolina Panthers (the Chicago Bears hold their pick) and the Arizona Cardinals.
With the Cardinals seemingly set at quarterback with Kyler Murray, the Bears are the only wild card in their way.
Fans and analysts are torn about their feelings regarding Justin Fields.
Some believe they will move on, while others think they will give him another year.
Regardless of their decision, the Commanders might want to make a move for the first pick, just in case any funny business goes down.
