MLB’s free agency is not for the faint of heart.
For some players, it can be a lonely process where you hope to field interest from teams.
One of the players who is feeling that way is veteran first baseman Joey Votto.
He is a free agent for the first time in his 17-year career.
Votto is set to enter his age-40 season, so it makes sense that not a ton of interest is headed his way.
But, the former MVP is not used to having to sit and wait for a team to call.
Votto made an interesting comparison when discussing free agency.
He compared it to a scene in the movie “Gravity.”
Being a free agent is like that scene from Gravity where Sandra Bullock detaches from the Explorer. You’re all alone, no one is answering your calls, and you don’t know if you’ll get back to base. Your only hope is George Clooney saving you.
Save me, George.

Votto has always been known for having a playful personality.
So it makes total sense that he is making light of his free agency.
But, it will be interesting to see what teams pursue him this offseason.
Last season, Votto struggled at the plate when healthy.
He only played in 65 games, but in that time he batted .202 with 14 home runs and 38 RBI.
At this point in his career, Votto is best served as a part-time player.
He can play first base or DH for any team that may need a left-handed bat.
Yet, he might have to sign for the vet minimum if he is serious about continuing his MLB career.
Votto is a one-time MVP and has always been known for his plate discipline.
He led the league in walks five times during his career.
Also, he has a career OBP of .409.
Votto wants to keep playing, and hopefully, someone will give him a chance.
