All of a sudden, Russell Wilson’s future with the Denver Broncos is in serious doubt.
The team has decided to bench him ahead of its contest this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, as they will go with Jarrett Stidham under center instead.
Reportedly, it said several weeks ago that if he didn’t accept an injury adjustment to his contract, they would bench him.
To top it off, Wilson reportedly expects the Broncos to cut him during the offseason.
However, when asked about his situation, he said he wants to be a Bronco and win championships with them, per Troy Renck.
Asked Russell Wilson if he wanted to talk. @ParkerJGabriel asked him as well as we talked with Russell. He agreed. He was very candid about his disappointment about #Broncos approaching him about adjusting contract during bye week. He said he still would like to stay in Denver.… pic.twitter.com/Kplo1iAUlg

The Broncos traded for Wilson ahead of last season, giving up five draft picks and three players, but the future Hall of Famer played very poorly in 2022, and they went just 5-12 in his maiden voyage with them.
This season, he has looked more like his usual self, as he has thrown for 3,070 yards and 26 touchdowns while completing 66.4 percent of his pass attempts.
Denver is in contention for a wild-card playoff spot, but they have lost two games in a row and are thus on the verge of being knocked out of contention for a playoff berth.
Some have felt that trading for the 35-year-old Wilson was a big mistake because of what they gave up for him and, more importantly, the fact that they simply don’t have the talent to compete for a Super Bowl championship.
After playing the struggling Chargers, the Broncos will wrap up the regular season on Jan. 7 at the Las Vegas Raiders.
